During this class, parent and child teams spent quality time together learning the basic techniques of digital photography, such as the manual features of digital cameras, the principles of aperture, shutter, and depth of field as well as concepts of composition, texture and other manipulations of light achieved with lens adapters. With these skills in mind, parent and child teams explored the natural habitat surrounding the Bronx River and photographed animal and plant species. In addition, parent and child teams learned how to use Photoshop, a tool for manipulating digital images, as well as printing strategies and other presentation formats. Students were instrumental in providing digital images of the environment and restoration efforts being done along the river to support articles written by members of the Citizen Journalism class.
