Bronx, NY….. In honor of Woman’s History Month Bronx River Art Center will present an evening of torch songs sung by one of today’s outstanding Latin vocalist – Adela Dalto. For this March 24th performance Ms. Dalto will sing classic compositions of Latin music’s great female singers including Graciela, Tona La Negre, Celia Cruz and Carmen Dupree y Selena. Showtime is at 8:00 PM and tickets are $10:00 General Admission, $5.00 for seniors and youth up to 18, and free for current BRAC students. A 20% discount off the General Admission price is available for BRAC members and BCA Culture Card holders. Ms. Dalto’s performance will be strikingly enhanced by richly colored and deeply moving paintings by Rodriguez Calero on exhibit in the Gallery 1 (turned performance space for the evening). Also on view in Gallery 2 will be urban landscape paintings by Valeri Lasko.

Adela Dalto’s singing touches the heart and soul of her listeners. Mixing sophisticated elements of Latin and Brazilian Jazz with contemporary styles of American jazz, she creates a compelling blend of sensuous fiery rhythms with sultry vocals that makes her music a unique and moving experience. Her career has been greatly inspired by personal favorites such as Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Latin singers Graciela and Celia Cruz, the Brazilians Elis Regina and Leny Andrade.

Born in Texas to Mexican parents, she grew up with the influence of R&B and a growing interest in Jazz. Over a career that spans more than 25 years she has honed her talents as a performer, songwriter, poet and educator, and is the author of the Young Woman’s Empowerment Journal, which she uses for her Empowerment Workshops for Young Women. Adela has performed with her band in many of New York City’s top clubs such as S.O.B.'s, Visiones and Birdland and at festivals including the Chivas Regal Latin Jazz Festival in Puerto Rico. She has also appeared in Latin music festivals alongside great Latin musicians such as Jerry Gonzalez and Hilton Ruiz; and she has performed with jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove in Japan, Brazilian pianist Aloisio Aguiar in Rio and with Mauricio Smith's Latin Jazz Orchestra at The Rainbow Room in New York City. Adela toured as featured vocalist with the late Mario Bauzá's AFRO CUBAN JAZZ ORCHESTRA at the Pori Jazz, North Sea Jazz, Umbria Jazz and the Montreux Jazz festivals and with Carlos "Patato" Valdes' AFROJAZZIA ensemble as they hit Europe's top nightclubs.

Adela has recorded with top names in the field such as Chucho Valdez, Lee Konitz, Dave Valentin, David Sanchez and Claudio Roditi among others. Adela's latest CD release, Papa Boco on Milestone Records, is a mix of Latin, Brazilian and jazz tunes containing much of her own lyrics. She also has three Japanese CDs on the Venus Records label titled Exotica, Peace and A Brazilian Affair. In 2003 Ms. Dalto received the Bobby Capo Lifetime Achievement Award from New York State Governor, George Pataki.
