BRAC Teaching Artist, Mixed-media, Started February 2020
I was born in Medellin-Colombia and moved to NYC in 1997. I have been a part of the Washington Heights / Inwood community for many years. I am a mother of two kids and a member of Cornerstone Studios since 2015.
I have a degree in Fine Arts from National University of Colombia and a BFA in Graphic Design. I worked with textile artisans in India for several years and have been involved in painting and textiles for all my life. I have had a few group shows in New York City. Last Summer I did a commission for a Public Art Installation for Exchange Place Alliance, and had my first solo show this January 2020 at Smush Gallery, Jersey City.
Why I Teach: “
I see teaching as a mutual interaction and I believe while you teach you are learning about yourself in so many ways. It is always a true horizontal dynamic of giving and receiving and that, for me, sets up the foundation for the students, the artwork and myself to grow.
Teaching during this time of social distancing has been an interesting challenge. It is definitely a new way for all of us and always takes time adapting to new technology and to the fact of not seeing each other in person. But it is great to find the tools to make connections and share art making in a virtual and emotional way.
