presents
The 1930's Bronx Housing Strikes: Lessons for the Occupy Movement
Thursday, December 8th at 6:30pm

Historian Mark Naison looks at the powerful social movements of the Thirties, like the powerful rent strikes that rocked the Bronx in that decade, and draws some lessons for our movement today.

This meeting covered the history, conditions, and tactics of the Bronx housing strikes in the 1930s with discussion on what lessons can be learned from it and applied to today's Occupy movement. Comments included the need to fight for more community facilities in the Bronx, the need to fight school closings, and the impact of Occupy Wall Street on local community protests.

The International Socialist Organization (ISO) is committed to building an organization that participates in the struggles for justice and liberation today--and, ultimately, for a future socialist society. The ISO has branches across the country whose members are involved in helping to build a number of struggles: the movement to stop war and occupation, fights against racism and anti-immigrant scapegoating, the struggle for women's rights like the right to choose abortion, opposing anti-gay bigotry, and standing up for workers' rights.
